Nyae Nyae Village School teachers entering the last year of the INSET teacher training

The ultimate aim is to improve their skills and knowledge and for them to become competent, confident, motivated and creative teachers. With the number of learners at the village schools increasing JDF is also embarking on identifying new potential future teachers to enrol them in the next teacher training program. We are encouraging San women to be part of this program as well.

At the start of the village school project, there were no Ju/’hoansi San teachers available to provide mother-tongue education. So community members with an interest or experience in education were enrolled at the INSET program at the University of Namibia, to enable them to get their qualifications and improve their skills and knowledge while teaching at the Nyae Nyae Village Schools. It has been quite a challenging journey, partly because distant learning is difficult in an area with limited and variable internet connection. With the employment of qualified San teacher Festus Soroab as teacher mentor in August 2021, the performance of the teachers drastically improved. We are proud to announce that all teachers that have not received their qualifications yet are now entering their last year of the INSET training program.
